Second Chance Project

The programme has been in existence since 1993.

The project is an alternative education project which is run in partnership with O’Fiaich College, Dundalk. The young people attend school for two hours a day and the project for four. Project workers accompany the young people during the two hours in school.

Overall aim

To enable young people to make informed choices regarding:

  • Returning to or remaining within the education system.
  • Accessing further training or employment.
  • Offending behaviour.
  • Misuse of drugs solvents and alcohol.

Referrals

The Probation Service, the Health Service Executive, O’Fiaich College, the Education and Welfare Officer.

Twelve young people at any given time participate. There could be up to twenty young people in the course of one year.

Programmes and Activities

In-school Component:

English, Maths, Woodwork, Metalwork and Art at Junior Certificate level.

Second Chance Project Component:

Personal Development Programmes Computers, Cooking, Art, Guitars, Woodwork, Crime Prevention programmes, Drug and Alcohol Awareness programmes, Sport, Environmental work in the community, Literacy and numeracy, Outdoor pursuits, Reward and Incentive programme.
